Everyone in Greater Nottingham who has Diabetes is being offered a free yearly digital photograph of the back of the eye (the retina).
People with diabetes will receive a letter that contains a date, time and location for the photograph. A leaflet is also enclosed which explains what happens during the appointment.
The retinal screener will explain the screening procedure. They will check vision using an eye chart and put drops in the eyes to dilate the pupils. The drops take approximately 20 minutes to work and slightly blur the vision for a few hours. Once the pupils are dilated, the eyes are photographed. The camera does not touch or hurt the eyes. The visit takes up to 45 minutes.
If you receive an appointment and can't make it, please let us know. We will do our best to reorganise it.
If you have Diabetes, are registered with a General Practitioner in Nottingham and have not had your eyes examined for Diabetic Retinopathy in the last 12 months, please let us know. We can then make sure you have an appointment organised.
